Over the years, you have been disappointed again and again by politicians who say one thing and do something else once elected. Citizens vote for these politicians based on name recognition and political experience. They tell you they are going to Carson City to try and make a difference. Yet they don’t tell you how. They tell you we need to diversify our economic and tax base away from gaming, tourism and mining. But they have no plan. They say we need to create jobs in Nevada and then, like the incumbent in this race, vote for a $600 Million tax extension that includes a payroll tax.
You see, I don’t expect your vote because of name recognition. I will not demand your vote because of political experience. Instead, I know I must earn your vote with sound principles and policies and a strong work ethic. I believe this is what sets me apart from career politicians.
What will I do to earn your vote? I will do more than show up and vote. Your voice will be heard and your input asked for. I will work on behalf of your interests and not the politically convenient or expedient path. This is because I truly believe your representatives are hired by you to do your bidding, not the bidding of a political ally or special interest. In other words, I believe in the Citizen Government our Forefathers envisioned.
I will make a difference in Carson City by creating a Rural Caucus in the Assembly and using those numbers to get important legislation through the process. I will do everything I can to get out there and meet as many of you as possible. If I can look in your eyes and shake your hand over a cup of coffee, I’ll be better able to hear your genuine concerns.
It will be important for citizens to keep in regular touch with phone calls and e-mails because my office is your office. Not only is this a way for you to let me know what’s important to you, but this consensus of opinion can help me lead the charge when negotiating with other legislators to make sure that the will of the people is done.
I hope you will read my issues page, read about my career, and share this website and our e-mail newsletters with your friends. Be sure to contact me with your hopes, dreams, and concerns. I want to make this campaign about serving you and to do that I need to know what your important issues are.
Thank you for visiting,
Jim Wheeler
